All This Talk About Media Kits

So I love SimplyStacie's blog. She has so many useful tips for newbies like myself.  One of which lately was the much needed and often requested Media Kit.  A media kit is a compilation of your blog's most important info for PR contacts.  I however do not have the revenue yet to justify buying one.   But it's been said by Stacie, and other very successful probloggers, having one gives the professional impression you NEED if your serious about what your doing.  You'll receive better and more often reviews.

This is mine I made yesterday.  I tried using Google docs, Word, PowerPoint, Photo Shop, you name it!  It was super frustrating.  I wish I had the $$ to pass this headache along to someone who knows what they're doing LOL.

One thing I learned by looking at Stacie's is that it was made from the same design she uses on her blog.  So I incorporated mine as well.

The pro's with Google docs are that you get a link you can just embed into your email.  Or you can export as a PDF file and include it in your email.  Cons are the fonts.  Very limited fonts.  You can't really design a layout on it.

PowerPoint pros, great for the slide show version..  Easy to follow along.  You can be as unique as you'd like.  The recipient can go directly to the page he/she is interested in, ie. Advertising prices.  Cons, it's more complicated that I thought and it can get very lonnnggg.  A PR could get bored and figure it's  not worth it to sit thru IDK.

Photo Shop pros, you get a great design, con you can't have keyword links.

Word was just like Google docs, lack of design capabilities, but you get great fonts.  What ever you have in your computer.

So ultimately...  I used two programs.

I used Google docs because I need that PDF form and easy link.  But, to design it I used Magix Xara Graphic & Web Designer.  I love using that over PhotoShop, I understand it so much better and it has a lot of the same advantages.

So, do you have a media kit?  If so did you buy one , or make it yourself?  Care to share any tips with us?  And finally, what do you honestly think of mine?  Is it too busy?  Hubby says it's too busy.  Should I go with a white plain background?
